I started lecturing on A Course in Miracles at the Philosophical Research Society in Los Angeles in 1983.
Five years later, I was having dinner before my lecture in San Francisco with Dr. Jerry Jampolsky, one of the original “founding generation” of Course students. During our conversation he suggested that I write a book…
“Others have told me that,” I said, “but I don’t feel pregnant with a book.”
“It’s all in those little tapes you make!” he said.
“Well, I don’t know how to get the material off the tapes and onto a page.”
“So let’s just agree in consciousness,” he said to me, “that there is someone out there who could help you do that.” He reached across the table and shook my hand.
Exactly one week later, I gave a talk in New York City. At the end of my talk there was a line of people waiting to talk to me. I glanced at the man at the end of the line and had the thought that I would have some kind of destiny with him.
When he reached the front of the line, he introduced himself as a literary agent and asked if I had ever thought about writing a book.
“Others have told me that,” I said, “but I don’t feel pregnant with a book.”
“It’s all in those little tapes you make!” he said.
“Well, I don’t know how to get the material off the tapes and onto a page.”
I’m sure you know where this is going by now. “Well,” he said, “I can help you do that.”
Five years later, in 1992, the book was published. It was called A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles. Originally due to my appearance on Oprah! the book became an overnight success and ended up being the fifth best selling book in America that year. It has sold over three million copies and has had an extraordinary life of its own.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure…” (often misattributed to Nelson Mandela) has found its way into everything from greeting cards to tattoos. The book has been a blessing on many lives, including mine. Now, over thirty years later, I am delighted to do a teaching that will hopefully enhance the material.
I hope you will join me for an intense experience — and hopefully intensely fun! — studying the book together. I think I’ll have some anecdotes about my life at that time, and the world around me, that will add to our understanding. The book itself has been a bit of a miracle, and after 32 years I’m looking forward to the revisit.
